Love the Silver Eagle coin? There’s nothing quite like it in Proof condition. Collectors love the fact that the United States Mint produces proof versions of American Eagle Bullion coins for those who love beautiful silver coins. Both Proof Silver Eagles and Proof Gold Eagles undergo a specialized minting process, which begins by manually feeding burnished coin blanks into presses fitted with special dies.

Proof Silver Eagles are struck multiple times so the softly frosted, yet detailed images seem to float above a mirror-like field. After scrutiny by white-gloved inspectors, each Proof Silver Eagle, Proof Gold Eagle and Proof Platinum Eagle is sealed in a protective plastic capsule and mounted in a handsome satin-lined velvet presentation case with its own official Certificate of Authenticity.  

Since Proof Silver Eagles are produced by the United States Mint, each coin's content, weight and purity are guaranteed by the U.S. Government. American Eagle Gold, Silver, and Platinum Proof Coins have a limited mintage and can be purchased directly from the United States Mint.

In 2009 high demand and short supply of the Proof Silver Eagles made them even more valuable! Silver bullion coins continued to be subject to rationing to start the year under the previously established allocation program. Authorized purchasers of the coins were limited in the number that they were able to purchase. The rationing finally ended on June 15, when the US Mint was able to meet full demand for Silver Eagles, including Proof Silver Eagles.

Because of the legal obligation to fulfill public demand for the bullion Silver Eagles, the US Mint was forced to cancel the issuance of the 2009 Proof Silver Eagle and the 2009-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle. These collectible offerings were not legally mandated, so the US Mint was forced to interrupt these series of collectible coins until they could meet the full demand.
