| 1935-A $1 Hawaii Emergency Note |
| During the early part of WWII, the U.S. feared that Japan would overrun Hawaii and be able to capture large sums of American currency to fund their war effort. To keep prevent that from happening, the US issued these notes overprinted with the word "HAWAII" twice on the front and in large block letters on the back. Because these notes were distinctive, it would make it easy for the US to demonetize the notes if they fell into enemy hands. |
